Halfset

Irish 4-piece instrumental electronica outfit Halfset have just released a fresh album recently, Another Way of Being There, which is their sophomore album after 2005's Dramanolog. The album is a joyous offering of epic, wavy, emotive soundscapes of tracks like Work, Adrift and Salmon, with slightly catchier tracks such as Prairie and Desire Lines. This album reinforces the view out there that Ireland is becoming a haven for ethereal, ambient electronic music, something we would have associated in the past with foreign lands and the likes of Ulrich Schnauss, Boards of Canada, Mogwai, Air et al. This is no longer the case, as it is right here on our doorstep in the form of bands such as (that I can think of right now at least) Halfset, Chequerboard, Holy Roman Army and in a slightly different direction acts such as Si Schroeder.

Halfset play 20th October in the Academy with Holy Fuck, 22nd October* in Whelan's and 24th of October at the Hat's Off Party. I don't know where or what the Hat's Off Party is but if anyone does, could they please let me know.

You can watch 4 of the videos from a live 2FM session here. I nicked this off the State website, which is actually really good.:

You can listen to an MP3 stream of the album here

* Yes, this is the same night Milosh and Chequerboard play Whelan's Upstairs. You observant little devils.
